For several months, tensions between France and Algeria have been at the highest. An illustration of the overall crisis that Algiers has been going through in recent years, has weakening on the diplomatic scene, economic difficulties and challenges of the power in place. In this series, we tell you about the challenges of Algeria today.
Last September, many were looking for a mysterious product. Here 19 € for 700 grams, € 55 online, against only a few euros normally. But everywhere, it is the stock of stock. Some even do dozens of kilometers to find them … a strange buzz straight from social networks.
This product is called El Mordjene. It is a spread with a hazelnut taste made from Algeria. And while hunting to find a small pot is intense, the containers are suddenly blocked at the port of Marseille and at Roissy airport. Its import has just been prohibited in France: El Mordjene would not respect European legislation.
A banal business story you will tell me? It could have stayed … but in Algeria, we protest, pointing to the EU and especially France. Especially since for several months, the tension between Paris and Algiers has only risen … and for the Algerian press, all occasions are good for criticizing French power.
