A Lord of the Rings screenwriter hasn’t seen The Rings of Power yet – and there’s a good reason for that

A screenwriter of The Lord of the Rings films admitted in an interview that she has not yet seen the Amazon series The Rings of Power. You can find out why this is the case on MeinMMO.

Who is it about? Philippa Boyens was one of the screenwriters for the film trilogies of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Alongside Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, she made a significant contribution to the films.

Philippa Boyens is not involved in Amazon’s The Rings of Power. What’s more, she hasn’t watched the series at all yet. She admitted this in an interview with Empire Magazine (via SlashFilm).

I didn’t see them and I did so consciously because I don’t intend to judge someone else’s attempt to return to this world.

Screenwriter doesn’t want to be influenced

Boyens explains that Tolkien created a complex world, which makes adaptive storytelling challenging. Later in the interview, she gives another reason why she prefers to stay away from The Rings of Power – at least for now.

Boyens does not want there to be any “cross-contamination” between her works and The Rings of Power. She first has to finish Middle-earth before she can watch someone else’s adaptation. One day, she hopes, that will be the case. She is currently working on three new films in the fantasy universe:
