Ukraine has again been the target of a large-scale airstrike. According to the Air Force, Russia struck last night with 35 Shahed fighter jets, all of which were shot down.
Shortly after the drone attack, a dozen strategic bombers took off in Russia, and an air alert was ordered for the entire territory of Ukraine closer to dawn.
Some of the missiles were launched from the Caspian Sea area, some from near the town of Engels, located in the lower reaches of the Volga. There is a Russian airbase in Engels, where Ukraine carried out a few drone strikes in December 2022.
After seven in the morning, strong explosions began to be heard in Kiev. It was an anti-aircraft operation. Some of the explosions could be heard on Ylen Aamu’s live TV broadcast.
So far, it is not known how many missiles Russia launched and how many were intercepted by Ukraine. The air alert ended at 9:47. Ukraine and Finland are in the same time zone. A few fires have started in Kiev as a result of the attack, for example in a grocery store and in a Tesla store, where fuel tanks caught fire.

The attack has caused interruptions in Kyiv’s water supply. In individual districts, houses were left without electricity.

On New Year’s Eve and night, the cycle of attacks continued, and Russia carried out an exceptionally long drone attack on Ukraine, which lasted 11 hours. Ukraine says it shot down 87 drones out of 90.
