Kosovo Interior Minister Xhelal Sveçla, at a press conference in Mitrovica in the north of Kosovo, a large amount of weapons were found in a vehicle with Belgrade license plate belonging to Serbian Railways, a public institution of Serbia, approximately 100 meters from the Zveçan Municipality by the Kosovo police and AKİ. He stated that explosives and various ammunition were found.
Stating that a flash bang, military uniforms and bags were also seized in the vehicle, Sveçla said, “It was aimed to carry out terrorist attacks against the citizens and institutions of the Republic of Kosovo. All this is part of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s goal of destabilizing our country through such groups and organizations. It’s another proof.” used the phrases.
Sveçla pointed out that the weapons that arrived in Kosovo were directly supplied by the Serbian army, since they were new, and used the following statements:
“It is clear who is behind the terrorist attacks and attempts in our country. Hand grenades are not produced by Serbia in 2021, that is, weapons from the Kosovo war, but were directly supplied by the Serbian army. The dose of violence and crime from Serbia is already increasing, criminal gangs have already turned into terrorist organizations. ”
TENSION BETWEEN KOSOVO AND SERBIA
On 26 May, Kosovo Serbs protested the election of Albanian mayors who won the local elections on 23 April in the municipalities of Zveçan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic, where Serbs are concentrated in the north of Kosovo.
There was a clash between the Kosovo police, which was sent to the region to protect the Albanian mayors, and the Kosovo Serbs.
Serbia detained three people, who were determined to be members of the Kosovo police, in the border region of the two countries on the grounds that they were “planning an action in Serbia” on 14 June, and Kosovo defended that the police were “abducted” by Serbia.
While the Kosovo police detained about 10 Kosovo Serbs for different reasons, Serbia demanded that these people be released as soon as possible.
The main reason for the tension between the two countries, which come face to face at regular intervals, is expressed as Serbia’s seeing Kosovo, which declared its unilateral independence in 2008, as its own territory.
Within the scope of the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Process, initiated in 2011 under EU mediation, efforts are being made to find a common way for the normalization of relations and ultimately for the two countries to get to know each other. (AA)
