Large amounts of data that have been stolen from the Church of Sweden have been published on the Darknet by a hacker on Tuesday morning.
“It is probably about all the data that was stolen during the cyber attack in November,” the church writes in one press release.
Earlier in May, a criminal actor had threatened to publish the data if the church did not pay a ransom.
The Church of Sweden learned earlier in May that a “criminal actor” demanded a ransom from the church before May 21 – otherwise an unknown number of files would be published on the Darknet site.
The Church of Sweden then stood firm on not paying any ransom.
– That stolen data can now be published is very unfortunate. We have understood that the risk has existed and therefore we have informed widely that personal data may have been exposed, wrote Pia Dahlén, head of communications for the Church of Sweden at the national level in a press release then.
Now it is said that a large amount of data has been published on the Darknet and the Church of Sweden writes “It is probably about all the data that was stolen during the cyber attack in November”.
Representatives of the Church of Sweden are currently in a meeting about the publication. On their website, they state that an extensive work together with experts is underway where they analyze what has been published.
TV4 Nyheterna has contacted the Church of Sweden for a comment.
