Kuopio Football Club reportthat its player is suspected of a serious crime.
According to KuPS, the suspect is of legal age and belongs to the contracted players of the KuPS Academy, which plays in Ykkösen. He has been imprisoned by the district court’s decision and closed from the activities of the club and the team for the time being.
KuPS says the police have informed the club. The player’s contract will be terminated immediately if he has committed a crime.
The club is cooperating with the police to find out the matter.
Executive director of KuPS ry Jari Koistinen said in the press release that he was shocked by what happened.
– The information about the player’s arrest came to us completely unexpectedly. The information deeply touches many of our club’s players, coaches and employees. We do not comment on an open matter. The police should be given a break from the investigation, says Koistinen.
– We will find out what kind of support is needed within the club. We support teams and coaches in handling the matter. We are also waiting for more information on the matter ourselves.
Koistinen told Urheilu that the club will not comment further at this stage.
