A historic feat from KalPas goalkeeper Jatkola scored a goal

KalPa’s goalie Juha Jatkola has scored the fourth goal in the history of the ice hockey SM league.

KalPa’s goalkeeper Juha Jatkola tipped the puck into the empty HPK goal in 55:46 and with his rare hit sealed a 5–1 home victory over a well-tempered team from Hämeenlinna in the hockey SM league.

Jatkola told Puhee that when HPK took the glove off, one of the head referees yelled at him not to stop the game if the puck lands on his glove.

– The puck didn’t hit the glove, but it came in the gutter, so I thought I’d try it (scoring) with a little risk, when the match was being controlled so much. The puck spun a little more than normal. At first, I thought it would pass from the left, but it must have taken a bounce in the middle and happened to go in, said Jatkola excitedly.

Power goalkeeper Jatkola also passed KalPa Benjamin Korhonen finished with a 4–1 goal in the third period. Jatkola is the first goalkeeper in the SM league who has added up 1+1 performances in one league match.

This season, the 21-year-old Nashville Predators’ 2023 NHL reservation has collected 1+4=5 power points for a goalkeeper in the league.

KalPan Mika Järvisten became the first goaltender to score a goal in the history of the ice hockey SM league, when he lifted the puck into an empty goal against Lukko in 59:17 on the fourth day of December in 2008.

The second goalkeeper to score in the SM league is Lassi Lehtinenwho raced the puck into an empty goal in a Lukko jersey on December 1, 2018.

Last season, in the league match between Ässie and TPS, the Pori club Niklas Rubin got a goal to his name when TPS Michael Dal Collen the pass slipped from the central area during the penalty that was transferred to the own goal. The goal was recorded in the statistics for the Ässä goalkeeper who last touched the puck.
