A hefty fine for Uber for violating the data protection of Europeans | News in brief

The company has transferred the personal data of European drivers to the United States without adequate protection.

The transport service company Uber has been fined 290 million euros by the Dutch data protection authority.

The reason is that Uber has transferred the personal information of European drivers who provide their services through it to the United States without adequate protection.

Uber has thus seriously violated the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The complainants were 170 French drivers. The case was handled in the Netherlands because Uber’s European headquarters is there.

Uber plans to appeal the fine.
