World First was yesterday: A raid group recently managed to do something that not many Final Fantasy XIV players even thought possible. A handful of players managed to master the raid The Omega Protocol on the hardest difficulty level, Ultimate, without a single healer class.
How did the players master the raid? The group deployed 5 DPS classes and 3 tanks, with 2 of the tanks being Paladins. This means that no healer classes such as white mages, scholars, astrologers or sages were used.
However, Paladins have the ability to heal themselves. So those tanks could go with Omega without any healers at all, while the rest of the group was not spared from dishing out damage to the whole party and had to act accordingly.
Overall, it was a tightrope act to minimize or even avoid any damage to individuals through timing and position. The Ultimate level is even harder than the previous Savage Raids, the most difficult content in Final Fantasy XIV to date. One mistake and the raid has to be repeated often. User: “Healers think healing is a waste of time”
How are the reactions of the fans? Although the world-first races in raids in Final Fantasy XIV have garnered widespread interest among fans of the MMORPG, this incident not only got the community just as excited, but also prompted a heated discussion on Reddit (via Reddit).
Fans think that this YouTube video has revealed the problems of Final Fantasy XIV. Players who call the healer class their own as their main class are apparently at a disadvantage at the moment.
Those affected, like the user SunshineWasTake, claim that the healer is becoming a little more useless every day (via Reddit). Rather, even the healer classes would currently focus on damage rather than healing.
User MiddieFromMhigo agrees: The healer philosophy in this game has deteriorated so much that healers now think that healing for the healer role is a waste of time.
User John_Bumogus adds that the number of dungeons where he only did minor healing is unbelievable, and that he sometimes triggers an overheal on purpose to make it feel like he’s contributing at all.
Square Enix has not yet commented on this incident. However, fans hope that the developer will make the healer classes even more relevant in their role, as several fans said was the case in the Stormblood add-on (via Reddit).
What kind of raid is this? The Omega Protocol was integrated into the MMORPG earlier this year on January 24, 2023 with patch 6.3. The raid is divided into 6 phases, namely:
The phases describe the different incarnations of Omega and its diverse mechanics. The Ultimate difficulty level is also the highest level at which you can play this raid.
