The domestic athletics season got off to a stunning start at Harju in Jyväskylä. Reetta Hurske broke the new Finnish record for 100 meters in the first round of the GP Games, which is now recorded at 12.70.
Hurske healed Annimari Kortene the four-year-old record by two hundredths.
Hurskee’s previous record was 12.78 from 2019. With his SE quote, he also broke the WC limit of 12.78.
The wind was 0.9 seconds behind, so the conditions were statistically valid. Hurske’s time is also the top score in Europe this season. The top score in the world is from Puerto Rico by Jasmine Camacho-Quinn 12.31.
– The first fences went very well and the fences came all the way to the end. There is no longer any need to think that Reetta Hurske is only a good 60 meter hurdler. He is a hard, hard maker of 100 sea fences, said Urheilu’s expert Tuomas Raja on air.
Hurske, 28, won European Championship gold in the 60-meter hurdles in Istanbul in the winter with a time of 7.79, which eclipsed the Finnish record. Hurske improved the SE time of the trip several times during the winter. Now the good mood seems to carry over to the summer season right from the start.
Hurske’s batch got up to speed with the second attempt. Hurske had time for an interview after the run, even though there is still a final run ahead.
– It felt like some of the fences came down. At least that false start didn’t hurt, Hurske said.
The athletics season has really gotten off to a great start for Finns, because on Tuesday Viivi Lehikoinen ran a new Finnish record of 54.40 in the 400-meter hurdles.

Korte hurt his hand, out of the final
Annimari Korte won the first heat of the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 12.98. The highlighter of the run was Lotta Haralawho was running to a clear victory until he faltered a bit at the end.
Harala’s time of 13.03 was his record. He improved his previous record by three hundredths. Without the wobble, Harala would have run clearly under 13 seconds.
Korte said that he will not run in the evening’s final.
– In the opening round, I hit my hand against the fence so hard… Now let’s go to the emergency room to see if the finger or wrist is broken. I twisted pretty hard and it hurt, Korte said in an interview with his hands tied.
Korte said he would have liked to run in the final, but the doctor wouldn’t let him.
– When your legs are in good condition, you can’t do anything with your hands. Of course, the pain gets worse when the adrenaline stops, Korte said after the heat run.
Korte said that he is still going to Jyväskylä for an X-ray and will go to Helsinki for an MRI the next day.
