Anyone who buys the strategy game “Total War: Warhammer 3” with all available additional content on Steam has to pay 272 euros and 35 cents – and the prices are currently significantly reduced in the sale. MeinMMO author Schuhmann has spent 80 hours on the mega-chunk in the last few weeks and says: The best campaign costs nothing. But you have to play a contaminated green demon.
Why is Total War: Warhammer 3 so incredibly expensive? Total War: Warhammer 3 is a DLC nightmare from the perspective of players who have never had anything to do with the series. This is due to a special mechanic:
A modular system that has evolved over 8 years makes Warhammer 3 so expensive
How much does it cost to get Total War: Warhammer 3 complete? If you want to own all the content for Total War: Warhammer 3 in the current sale on Steam, you will pay 272 euros and 35 cents:
There is a certain irony in the fact that Total War: Warhammer 3 is now so expensive: the tabletop game Warhammer has also been accused for decades of simply being too expensive.
Do you have to buy all the DLCs?? No, this is a modular system. In general, players recommend only picking out the DLCs that you currently “need” and that you are interested in.
However, some factions are considered practically “unplayable” if you don’t have the DLCs because they are missing important units or the starting position is unfavorable.
In addition, the new lords in particular have particularly exciting mechanics that make their campaigns more exciting and enjoyable than “old, normal lords”: For example, the newest dwarven lord has his own airship with which he travels and many unique battles and missions.
For classic heroes, these battles are limited to just one to three battles where you can earn special epic items.
A demon offers you the best gaming experience
Which campaign is so good but costs nothing? I was disappointed with Warhammer 3 when it was released in 2022 because this mega mode didn’t exist at the time and the original campaign with its factions seemed very puny compared to the already refined and expanded Total War: Warhammer 2.
But in the last two weeks I’ve been intensively involved with Warhammer 3 and played a lot of campaigns. One campaign impressed me the most and it is actually free.
It’s about the Lord “Epidemius” of the “Nurgle” faction. You activate the campaign when you connect your Steam account with your Creative Assembly account – that’s 2 clicks. Directly in the game, a menu takes you to the correct page where you connect your account. It is enough to connect the accounts to unlock Epidemius – no further action is necessary.
But make sure to connect the correct Steam account. I connected the wrong person and then had to write to support, who could only delete the account – you can save yourself that if you don’t do this at 3:00 a.m. but with your brain awake.
What makes the campaign so good?? Nurgle is the ideal faction for patient strategy players, it rewards methodical construction:
As a special gimmick of the faction, at around level 16 you will be offered the opportunity to replace your “normal lord” with a higher demon of Nurgle.
Nurgle’s gameplay is unusual, but scales excellently
How does the faction differ: “Normally” in Total War: Warhammer 3 you only build military buildings in one city, usually the capital, recruit all the units for an army here and then move this army to where you want it. A single building of one type is enough to recruit an unlimited number of unit types.
Things work differently in Nurgle: Here, each military building only unlocks a limited number of units. Therefore, you only have a few units at the start of a campaign and you cannot create “full armies” of 20 units out of thin air, but you can recruit about 3-5 from a military building, then have to wait about 4 rounds and recruit 3-5 again.
However, the units can be recruited anywhere and it is therefore worthwhile to build military buildings not only in the capital, but all over the place. The further the game progresses, the more military buildings Nurgle has and the more powerful the armies become: Nurgle “scales” excellently as a faction. You become significantly stronger over the course of a game.
In combat, Nurgle is pleasant to play because the units are tough melee fighters, can withstand a lot and are forgiving of mistakes. They wear down the opponent and the battles are slow and easy to understand.
The specific hero Epidemius also starts off in the north of the map and plays carefree because he can only deal with one enemy at a time and slowly spreads across the map as he becomes more and more powerful. An additional plague mechanic ensures that, over the course of the game, you constantly have powerful buffs on your own units and cities and that your opponents have to live with debuffs.
The epidemics spread automatically; ultimately you only have to re-infect them once every 3 rounds.
Total War: Warhammer 3 is currently on offer on Steam for €24
Total War: Warhammer 3 is currently on sale for €24 on Steam, the Epdiemius campaign is free – but a warning should be issued. It could be that you bought far too many puzzle pieces in the DLC shop once you get the taste for it.
I was very annoyed about buying Total War: Warhammer 3 in 2022 – but that has actually changed, as I’ve noticed in the last few weeks, also thanks to my friend, the Plague Lord: Two years ago I had €60 for a game wasted on Steam: Now it should finally be good
