Capcom has created some games that many gamers grew up with. The company is currently more successful than ever before.
Which game company is it? The Japanese game developer and publisher Capcom is known for titles such as Street Fighter and Mega-Man, among others.
The two series of games were created in the late 1980s and shaped the childhood of many gamers. In total, Capcom released 94 Street Fighter games and 158 Mega Man spinoffs. Street Fighter 2 and 3 are what kids remember most from the 90s.
Today, in 2023, Capcom is more successful than ever. Capcom’s stock price has been climbing sharply since around 2018, hitting a new high on April 4 (via finance.yahoo.com).
The studio seems to be making a lot of right decisions, but the cornerstones of its success are no longer the classics we used to play as kids, but two completely different series.

What series is Capcom successful with today? When Capcom’s share price soared in 2018 and 2019, two franchises in particular thrived – Monster Hunter and Resident Evil.
Three titles in particular stood out (as of December 31, 2022 via capcom.co.jp):
Capcom enjoyed tremendous success with the three games for three consecutive years, which remain among the studio’s four best-selling games to date. In 2021, the studio continued the success with Monster Hunter: Rise (11.7 million) and Resident Evil Village (7.4 million).
Overall, the “Monster Hunter” franchise has sold 90 million units and is ranked second behind Resident Evil (135 million) in Capcom’s best-selling game series (via capcom.co.jp)
How is 2023 going for Capcom? The remake of Resident Evil 4 was released in March 2023. And even if some fans are not satisfied with the cast of a voice actress, the release of the new edition was a success.
According to Capcom, the RE4 remake has already sold over 3 million copies in the first 2 days (via capcom.co.jp). The game has a strong 97% positive reviews on Steam and a whopping 92 on metacritic (PC version).
Street Fighter 6 is also set to launch in June 2023, seven years after Street Fighter V was released.
It remains to be seen whether the latest offshoot of the fighting game series can build on the successes of Resident Evil or Monster Hunter. Maybe then we’ll see exciting fights again from the 41-year-old e-sports legend Daigo Umehara:
