A fun horror trip starring Scarlett Johansson that will leave
As the Marvel heroine Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson has defeated many an overpowering enemy. Long before their MCU days she fought in the horror comedy Arac Attack against giant spider monsters that even Spider-Man could only have choked on. Similar to the origin story of Spider-Man, Arac Attack also begins with an accident: a truck with chemicals loses its load near a town in the US state of Arizona and contaminates the surrounding flora and fauna. A little later, normal students like Mike (Scott Terra) and Ashley (Johansson) fight for survival against mutant giant spiders.

The work, directed by Ellory Elkayem (They Nest), parodies the trash monster films of the 1950s, which could scare the good citizen with the simplest means. The result has a lot of charm and wit, which did not go unnoticed by many critics (via Metacritic). However, an extremely lukewarm box office result meant that we are still waiting for Arac Attack 2 to this day.

With her smaller role Arac Attack, Scarlett Johansson made it clear for the first time that after indie appearances in films like Ghost World, she wasn’t too good at horror gossip either. Whether the film’s experience helped her when she first encountered Spider-Man is unknown.
