A ten-hectare forest fire is raging in the forests around Rotviksholmen next to lake Yxningen between Åtvidaberg and Valdemarsvik municipality.
The fire started at 11pm on Monday and the extinguishing work is expected to continue well into Tuesday.
– We received an alarm from people who live on the other side of the lake that there was a fire in a property, but when we arrived at the scene it turned out that it was only burning in the forest, says Daniel Asp, officer on duty at the rescue service.
Around 20 firefighters worked during the night to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
– It has been difficult to get to the fire and we have had to borrow private boats to transport materials and get to the fire, says Daniel Asp.
At 02.33 the fire was still burning at full strength.
– It’s a serious fire and it’s burning to the brim. It is unclear if we have control of it yet but we have requested a helicopter which we can use if necessary. But the fire no longer threatens any houses and it looks positive as long as it doesn’t start to blow again, says Daniel Asp.
