It was conducted by Hitit University Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department Lecturer Dr. Made by Bilgehan Tozlu, Assoc. Prof. from Karadeniz Technical University. Dr. Önder Aydemir and Dr. Lecturer A 97 percent success rate was achieved in diagnosing heart diseases with the electronic nose produced in the research in which member Cemaleddin Şimşek also participated as a researcher. Successful results were obtained in disease diagnosis studies performed with the electronic nose at Hitit University Erol Olçok Training and Research Hospital Cardiology Clinic. Head of the Department of Cardiology, Prof. Dr. Under the coordination of Yusuf Karavelioğlu, the study was carried out by taking the breaths of patients and healthy people who applied to the Cardiology Clinic.
FIRST IN THE WORLD! HEART DISEASES ARE DIAGNOSED FROM BREATH
People who voluntarily participated in this study filled the 10-liter disposable sterile bags given to them with their breath by blowing using sterile mouthpieces. The breaths in these bags were recorded as data on the computer through an electronic nose with gas sensors inside.
362 BREATH SAMPLES WERE TAKEN
In the study, a total of 362 breath samples were taken from 81 participants and uploaded to the developed system.
As a result of the study, it was concluded that the breaths of people who had a heart attack and were in intensive care were separated from the breaths of people with cardiovascular occlusion or without any heart disease with 97.19 percent accuracy.
In the same study, the breaths of people with cardiovascular occlusion and those without any heart disease were detected with an accuracy of 81.48 percent. The device, for which a patent application was made in 2019 to convert the system into a device and put it into use, was patented in 2022.
Additionally, this study was published as an article in an internationally respected journal. The electronic nose device, which allows the diagnosis of heart diseases from breathing, was exhibited for the first time at the Science and Technology Fair organized by Hitit University.
