After Turkey’s request, the UN changed the name of the country, which is used as “Turkey” in foreign languages, to “Turkey”.
UN Secretary General Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said that they received the letter sent by Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to Secretary General Antonio Guterres to change Turkey’s name in foreign languages to “Turkey”.
Dujarric stated that changing the country name is effective from the moment the letter is received.
