The Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) launched the Soyuz 2.1v rocket carrying the Luna-25 spacecraft from the Vostochniy spaceport, 5,500 kilometers east of the capital Moscow.

As Luna-25 enters flight orbit after successful launch, the spacecraft is scheduled to land on the Moon’s south pole on August 21.
Luna-25, which will conduct research on the Moon for approximately 1 year, has missions to investigate the effects of space rays and electromagnetic emissions on the lunar surface, as well as searching for water sources.
“SENT FOR PEACEFUL PURPOSES”
Roscosmos President Yuriy Borisov said that Luna-25 was sent to the Moon for peaceful purposes, and they plan to send spacecraft to the Moon in 2027, 2028 and 2030. (AA)
