The jury made its decision in the case where Hunter Biden, son of US President Joe Biden, is accused of buying a gun while under the influence of drugs. After a 3-hour deliberation, the jury found Hunter Biden guilty of all charges of lying to a federally licensed gun dealer, making false statements when purchasing a gun, and illegally possessing a gun for 11 days.
The Delaware District Court adjourned the trial for one day after the jury found Hunter Biden guilty of all three counts. Shortly after the verdict was read, First Lady Jill Biden also came to the courthouse where the court is located.
HE WILL RECEIVE MUCH LESS PUNISHMENT
Following the jury’s verdict, it was the first time a family member was found guilty while a president was in office. Hunter Biden’s crimes predate Biden’s tenure as president. Hunter Biden could face up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $750,000, but as a first-time offender he will likely receive much less.
The judge said that the sentence for Hunter Biden will be determined for 120 days following the jury’s decision, which means it will be given in mid-October, before the presidential elections in November.
STATEMENT FROM TRUMP’S TEAM
In the statement made by former US President Donald Trump’s campaign team, “This case has served no purpose other than diverting attention from the real crimes of the ‘Biden crime family’, which earned tens of millions of dollars from China, Russia and Ukraine. Crooked Joe “Biden’s reign over the Biden family criminal empire will end on November 5, and there will never be another Biden selling government access for personal gain. As for Hunter, we wish him success in his recovery and his legal affairs,” he said.
On the other hand, Hunter Biden started drug and alcohol addiction after his brother Beau Biden died of brain cancer in 2015.
