A bus transporting Ukrainian refugees from Poland to Finland was involved in a traffic accident in Lithuania early Thursday. Some of the passengers have been taken to hospital, but no one is in danger of death.
According to the site, the bus, which was almost at a standstill, collided with a traffic sign and then crashed into a ditch.
– Unfortunately, this morning, the bus we consulted on its way to Finland has hit a traffic sign and, having almost stopped, has floated into a ditch.
– Happiness was involved in the accident and the most important thing is that people are not in danger of death and the situation on the spot is calm and under control, the Bridge 22 network informs.
There are nine people in the hospital, tells Jorma Jokivarsi. They have fractures in the leg or arm, some with back pain.
Riverside has received information about the accident and the follow-up situation from his spouse and son, who were riding the bus.
The bus had left Poland from the city of Przemyśl near the Ukrainian border and was scheduled to board a ferry from Tallinn to Finland on Thursday afternoon.
Passengers are waiting to be picked up at a school near the scene of the accident.
– I was told that as soon as the replacement bus arrived, they would leave for Finland, Jokivarsi says.
– The school has a Wi-Fi connection, so those who might meet them at the port should try to contact them now.
According to Jokivarre, the bus derailed from the highway in Lithuania just before the Latvian border, near Raubony and Škilinpamūš.
According to Jokivarre, those on board describe that the pace was quiet at the time of the accident.
– They wonder if the road would have been slippery or if the bus driver had avoided the deer on the road, Jokivarsi says.
