In the women’s 400-meter hurdles, a fierce new world record of 50.37 was run on Thursday evening in Paris. The number one star of the sport Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone pressed for victory and improved the ME time in his own name by almost three tenths.
The 25-year-old American had run 50.65 earlier this year.

Second favorite in Holland Femke Bol bent the US Anna Cockrell back to bronze. McLaughlin-Levrone beat his compatriot with a huge margin of one and a half seconds.
It is the sixth world record of McLaughlin-Levrone’s career in that sport. In this millennium, no one else has been able to reach as many ME times in the running distances of the prestigious competitions.
The American also won Olympic gold three years ago in the ME time. He also won the 400-meter hurdles world championship two years ago.
It is the second ME of Olympic athletics. McLaughlin-Levrone’s peer Armand Duplantis on Monday, he broke ME 625. It was the Swede’s ninth ME.
