A few weeks before its official presentation, the Xiaomi 13 is the subject of numerous leaks on the web. The most surprising concerns the design of this future high-end smartphone which seems directly inspired by… the iPhone 14!
Leaks are commonplace in tech, especially in the world of smartphones, and few manufacturers manage to keep their new products secret until their official presentation. And Xiaomi is no exception! The Chinese manufacturer continues to enrich its catalog at a steady pace – to the point that it is sometimes difficult to navigate – and is preparing to lift the veil on with its future high-end smartphones, the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro. And if their official presentation should take place at the end of December 2022, Steve H. McFly – better known under the pseudonym of OnLeaks – has just revealed on Twitter quality 3D renderings of the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro – a 13 Ultra is also on the program. Other information has been shared on the sites CompareDial and Zoton. Please note, this information should be taken with a grain of salt as it is only rumour! But if these renders are indeed true, the first thing that jumps out at you is the design change of the Xiaomi 13 compared to its predecessor released last year, the Xiaomi 12, which leaves a feeling of already- seen. And for good reason: with its perfectly flat sides, the new flagship of the Chinese manufacturer would seem directly inspired by the iPhone 13 and 14…
Xiaomi 13: a design inspired by the iPhone 14
The least we can say is that the Xiaomi 13 stands out from its predecessor! It would feature a flat screen, frame and back for the first time, with uniform aluminum borders, where the Xiaomi 12 has much more curved lines – even if the 12 Lite is already more angular. This rather special screen is reminiscent of that of the iPhone 14 and the Nothing Phone. The smartphone would turn out to be quite compact, with a diagonal of 6.2 inches with dimensions of 152.8 x 71.5 x 8.3 mm. On the back, the camera block would also experience a big change, with rounded corners and three modules arranged diagonally – while those of the Xiaomi 12 are placed one under the other. All these elements are strongly reminiscent of the iPhone 14… Fortunately, the Chinese manufacturer does not seem to have gone so far as to copy the notch which contains the front camera – we would find here the usual central punch – nor the much appreciated Dynamic Island – even if it has already solicited its users to create its own version.
For its part, the Xiaomi 13 Pro would take over the overall design of its predecessor with curved edges and dimensions of 163 x 74.6 x 8.8 mm – so it would be a little thicker. The 6.65-inch screen – compared to 6.67 for the 12 Pro – would spill over the metal side edges of the smartphone, and the back of the device should have a glass surface. We would still find the central punch for the selfie sensor and the same photo block as the Xiaomi 13, a little more prominent. It would consist of a 50-megapixel wide-angle, an ultra-wide-angle and a telephoto lens for zooming. It would be equipped with a stereo speaker, 256 or 512 GB of storage and a USB-C connector. Regarding the colors, the 3D renderings only show models in white and black, but we can assume that Xiaomi will extend its range to other colors.
Xiaomi 13: smartphones expected by the end of 2022
The Xiaomi 13 smartphones are rumored to be powered by the all-new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor – they’ll be the first to ship it – which Qualcomm is to showcase at its Qualcomm Summit event taking place November 15-17, 2022. of the 13 Pro would be between 4,500 and 5,000 mAh – in comparison, the battery of the Xiaomi 12 is 4,500 Ah, that of the 12 Pro is 4,600 mAh and that of the 12 Ultra is 4,860 mAh. They should be entitled to MIUI 14, the new version of the Xiaomi overlay, based on Android 13.
The big question that interests users concerns the price, and as much to say that the new smartphones should not be very affordable with the current situation. The leaker shared the price of the Xiaomi 13 for the Indian market, which would be 66,800 rupees, or around 815 euros excluding tax. This seems surprising, given that the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro already had aligned themselves with the competition by adopting prices well above their usual. The 12 model in the 8-256 GB version had been marketed at a price of 900 euros and the 12 Pro model in the 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage version at a price of 1,100 euros. However, given the very high prices of high-end smartphones released recently – the iPhone 14 was released at the staggering price of 1,019 euros, nearly 100 euros more than the previous model –, we should not expect unless. The Xiaomi 13 are not expected on the French market before the beginning of 2023. Indeed, the Chinese manufacturer is used to unveiling new products in this range at the end of the year in China, before launching them a few months later in France. . Thus, the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro were released in France in mid-March 2022.
