The gold streak of the gymnastics superstar Simone Biles came to an unexpected end at the Paris Olympics when she placed fifth on the beam. Italy’s Alice D’Amato celebrated the gold.

Biles, who already won gold in the Games in quadruple, vault and team competition, fell to the mat during her performance and received a modest score of 13.100.
Italian Alice D’Amato took the first Olympic gold of his career with a score of 14.366. China’s Zhou Yaqin gymnastics for silver with a score of 14.100, and Manila Esposito also took bronze for Italy with a score of 14.000.
Like Biles, also Brazil Rebecca Andrade was left out of the medals in fourth place. Andrade finished behind Biles for silver in the quadruple and vault in Paris.
Biles and Andrade still have a chance to medal later today, when the program features the last bracket-specific final, the permanto.
Biles, 27, won the first four Olympic golds of her career back in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. At the Tokyo Games three years ago, the American missed most of his planned competitions and was left without a gold medal. Biles suffered from the so-called twisties phenomenon at the Games, which refers to the movement of a gymnast.
