Rise. Not. Out of! is the remake of the Spanish thriller Caller Unknown from 2015. In addition to the German version from 2018, there is also the Korean adaptation Hard Hit from 2021 and the brand new Liam Neeson thriller Retribution. On Netflix you can find the fast-paced and exciting 102-minute German version with a strong Möhring as a desperate family man.
That’s what Steig is all about. Not. Out of!: The Berlin construction entrepreneur Karl Brendt (Möhring) takes his children Josefine (Emily Kusche) and Marius (Carlo Thoma) to school by car. Before he can drop her off, he gets an anonymous call that he is sitting on a bomb. It will explode if he doesn’t do exactly what the blackmailer tells him. Since Karl is not allowed to tell the police anything about the bomb, he himself is targeted as the kidnapper of his children.
Little by little we delve deeper and deeper into dirty dealings, personal negligence, corruption and the bomber’s perfidious plan. The fact that Karl is fighting not only for his own life, but above all for that of his children, makes the thriller so nerve-wracking. On the police side, Hannah Herzsprung (Babylon Berlin) shines as the nerve-racking explosives expert Pia.
