Leading the US is by all accounts a nerve-wracking full-time job. So maybe it’s good going on a vampire hunt at night and root out the secret Longfang conspiracy in Civil War-era USA. That’s the premise of the fantasy horror film Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, out on TV today runs.

On TV: Fantasy horror sends Abraham Lincoln against an entire vampire nation

In director Timur Bekmambetov’s cracker (Night Watch), Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) lost his mother to a vampire attack at an early age. After Long Tooth Hunter Sturgess (Dominic Cooper) revealed a large-scale bloodsucker plague in the US, the freshly crowned president goes into battle with the wooden stake against his gruesome adversaries.

In the film, different Stages of the real Abraham Lincoln interpreted as horror scenes and enriched with vampire elements, such as the marriage to Mary Todd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) or the Battle of Gettysburg. The fantasy horror never turns into a history lesson, but always remains a spectacle with a unique idea.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer wasn’t well-received by critics at the time (via Metacritic), but it works well as entertaining entertainment with fast-paced action sequences and its own visual style. It is not known which of the US presidents has already seen him after Lincoln.
