Wartorn, the new game of BioShock’s lead designer Paul Hellquist, draws attention with its real-time tactics and roguelite elements.
Paul Hellquist, one of the founders of Stray Kite Studios and the lead designer of BioShock, announced the new game WartornHe announced. Set in a fantasy world, the real-time tactical roguelite takes players to the war-torn Talaur Islands. Wartorn, which is planned to be available in early access for PC in the spring of 2025, aims to offer players strategic depth and a story-oriented experience.
What awaits players in Wartorn?
Wartorn follows two elf sisters, Yara and Elani, as they struggle to survive in a chaotic world on the Talaur Islands. Players will create a Caravan by collecting a variety of fantasy creatures including goblins, demons, treefolk, and more. Strategically organizing the squad before the battle, using abilities carefully and placing the units correctly are among the basic mechanics of the game. However, caution should be exercised; Losses will cause a morale drop and if all hope is lost the game will be over.
The game’s battle system stands out with its element-based mechanics and environmental destruction features. For example, elements such as electricity spread through water or tar combined with fire will add a different dimension to battles. Additionally, thanks to the slowdown feature, players will be able to give precise commands even in complex situations.
Wartorn attracts attention not only with its combat mechanics, but also with its strong storytelling. Players will encounter different events with each new attempt and will have to make difficult decisions. Ethical dilemmas such as who should be saved and who should be fed will strengthen the dramatic aspect of the play.
Stray Kite Studios plans to offer a wide range of units, missions, biomes and upgrades in the early access release. New content will continue to be added throughout the full version development process for Wartorn, which will be available on Steam and Epic Games Store. This new production, coming from the creators of games such as BioShock and Borderlands 2, has already created great excitement.
