The nuclear power plant in Oskarshamn is today operated by OKG and the majority owner is the German energy giant Uniper, which in turn is owned by the German state.
The EU Commission has, however, demanded that the German state must sharply reduce its ownership in Uniper by 2028 at the latest. But this will likely happen earlier than that, according to the Social Democrats’ economic policy spokesperson Fredrik Olovsson.
– In practice, the work is already for sale, he says.
The Social Democrats now believe that the government must act to ensure Swedish ownership of the nuclear power plant in Oskarshamn, which has Sweden’s largest reactor.
– Whether we in Sweden should own the nuclear power in Oskarshamn or whether it should be privatized to a new, completely unknown owner will be decided in the near future.
The Social Democrats do not rule out a nationalization of the nuclear power plant, which accounts for seven to eight percent of Swedish electricity use during a year.
– We can think of several models. The important role that the facility has justifies increased government control, says Olovsson.
According to the Social Democrats, it is also in Sweden’s interest to be able to increase the efficiency and extend the life of the facility into the 2060s.
