A draw in the anxiety match IFK Göteborg–AIK – no team secured the Allsvenskan contract

After an anxiety-filled season, AIK tonight had a chance to secure Allsvenskan play in 2024.

But away against another major crisis team this season, IFK Göteborg, they found themselves at a disadvantage after just under half an hour. Sebastian Ohlsson collected the ball from the right wing, and after being directed at AIK defender Sotirios Papagiannopoulos, the ball went into the goal – and IFK Göteborg led 1-0.

18-year-old equalised

But AIK was the leading team for large parts of the match, and after 67 minutes they managed to equalise. After a tangled situation, 18-year-old Taha Ayari got hold of the ball and pounded it into the roof of the net – his first Allsvenskan goal.

The match ended 1–1. Thus, both teams are forced to play the last Allsvenskan round with a certain degree of anxiety.

“It’s been a tough season”

However, AIK is very close to a new contract. They are three points down on the Brommapojkarna in the qualifying spot, and have a better goal difference of eight goals.

– It has been a difficult season. AIK is a top team in Allsvenskan and we will not go down. Now the job is done and we are done, says Taha Ayari to Discovery +.

AIK–Värnamo on Sunday

IFK Göteborg has one point, and a better goal difference of nine goals, down to BP. In the last round, AIK meets fifth place Värnamo at home, while Göteborg plays away to the already clear last place Varberg.

– The disappointment is big, of course, because we are playing at home. As always, the support is flawless and we want to take advantage of that at home. Unfortunately, we didn’t succeed in that today, but a point is better than zero, says IFK Gothenburg’s Oscar Wendt to SVT Sport, and continues:

– We are disappointed, but we have to recharge and then we have to go to Varberg and finish that. We still have the chance to finish it ourselves and we have everything in our hands, that’s the most important thing.

BP receives the Allsvenskan third Häcken.
