After a month of fasting, Muslims are preparing to celebrate Eid El-Fitr marking the end of Ramadan 2025. The Paris Mosque caused doubt to the surroundings of 6 p.m. at the start of the night of doubt.
Nearly five million Muslims practicing in France are waiting with the end of the month of Ramadan, a period of fasting and meditation started on March 1. According to the Muslim theological council of France (CTMF) and the French Council for Muslim worship (CFCM), this deadline is already fixed for Sunday, March 30, 2025. These two instances are based on a method of astronomical calculation to determine the appearance of the lunar crescent in the sky, marking the entrance in the following month of the Hegian calendar.
Thus, the CTMF specifies that “the conjunction (new moon) will occur on Saturday March 29, 2025 at 10:58 am GMT (11:58 am, Paris time). The conditions necessary for the observation of the new lunar crescent will be met the next day, Sunday, March 30”. “The conjunction (new moon) will occur on Saturday March 29, 2025 at 10:58 a.m. GMT (11:58 am Paris). The conditions necessary for the observation of the new crescent of Chawwâl, in the world, will be met incha Allah, the next day, Sunday, March 30, from 00:12 GMT (01h12, Paris time)”, can read.

The CFCM abounds in this sense. The body, which adopted the scientific method in 2013, indicates that Sunday, March 30, will correspond to the 1st day of the month of Chawwal (month following the month of Ramadan- Edlr) of the year 1446 of the Hegira, synonymous with breaking of the fast and festival of Eid El-Fitr. He believes that the lunar croissant will be visible this Saturday in North America shortly before noon in Paris too.
The great mosque of Paris was not sure of the date
However, faithful to tradition, the great mosque of Paris chose to wait for the “night of doubt”, organized this Saturday evening within it, to officially announce the end of Ramadan. This ancestral custom is to scrutinize the sky in order to directly detect the presence of the end of the moon signing the change of month. If the latter is visible to the naked eye, then Eid El-Fitr is celebrated the next day. A way of perpetuating the original spirit of Ramadan, while adapting to current means of observation.
The great mosque of Paris announced around 6 p.m. on Saturday March 29, that the end of Ramadan was well fixed at night. Eid El Fitr will therefore take place the next day, Sunday, March 30.
