A great specialist in the mini PC, Beelink extends its catalog with the mini me, a personal storage system operating in a network and in Wi-Fi. Its great originality: it uses SSDs for a maximum capacity of 24 TB.
We know Beelink well for his mini PCs – we regularly test it on CCM and his excellent Ser8 even acts as a new reference in the field, including in front of the Apple Mac Mini M4. And if the Chinese manufacturer seems to have found a real magic formula for its mini computers, it also seeks to extend its range of products with other innovative solutions. As evidenced by its very original ex Docking Station, a home station allowing to use an external graphics card with models in the GTI range (see our full test). But there is obviously not to stop there by preparing to attack another area: domestic storage.
Beelink has just announced the upcoming release of the Mini Me, first representative of the Me series (in reference to the English word, for “personal”. Come his name does not let him become instantly, it is a storage server Nas (Network attached storage): In other words, a network storage device. A system that is not very new since it has been around for years in specialized brands like Synology, Qnap, Zykel or Lacie.
The peculiarity of the mini me is that it uses SSDs in place of the usual hard drives. A choice which allows both to offer very high flows – but which remain limited by the band passing from the network – to consume little energy and to remain silent, the SSDs exclusively exploiting electronic chips, without the rustling motors and trays of the magnetic hard drives.
And the mini me is not satisfied with a single medium since it can accommodate up to six SSDs of 4 to each, to offer a maximum capacity of 24 TB! A more than comfortable space which makes it possible to consider many uses, in particular to build a real small cloud Staff used to share all kinds of files (documents, photos, videos, music, etc.) with various devices (computer, tablet, smartphone, connected television, etc.) in a family setting. And not only locally, at home, since the mini is obviously accessible to me via the internet.
Beelink mini me: much more than just shared storage
In practice, the mini takes the form of a small cube (99 × 99 × 98 mm for 730 g). With an internet diet, and not an external adapter, it can thus handle, move and place itself easily on a desk or a piece of furniture. And although it is equipped with an internal fan to cool its components, Beelink promises that it remains very discreet, with a sound level lower than ambient noises, thanks to its passive dissipators. He has six M.2 locations for as many SSDs, each of one 4 TB at most. Beelink configures it in the factory with crucial models, a mark of confidence with which the manufacturer has long worked on his mini PC.
More surprising – although … -, the mini rests me on an X86 architecture which works under Windows 11: it can thus serve as a simple file server like mini pc of Media Center Salon – Even if Beelink says nothing yet on the processor used and the RAM available. In addition to its two 2.5 Gbit/s ethernet ports for wired network connections, it incorporates a Wi-Fi module to easily exchange data with wireless devices such as smartphones. But also an HDMI and S USB outing!
Finally, if Beelink has not yet communicated on its price – a criterion that will make all the difference – the manufacturer specifies that the mini is the first representing that a range of systems which will also have two other models ME Pro and Me Max for different uses. An original concept and a matter – family – to follow therefore.
