a demonstration organized in Milan by the opposition for homoparental

LGBT+ associations, supported by the opposition, including the Democratic Party and the 5 Star Movement, are organizing a demonstration to be held this Saturday, March 18 in Milan to demand respect for the principles of non-discrimination of children born to homosexual couples and to filling the legal void, in the best interests of the children. As requested on several occasions by the Italian Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights.

Several reasons triggered the mobilization of associations fighting against homophobia. Civil unions between same-sex couples have been legalized since 2016, but there is still no law for the recognition of homoparental families. Faced with this legal void, some town halls have nevertheless agreed to register children from couples of women or men with the names of both parents.

But according to a circular from the Ministry of the Interior, recalling that in Italy surrogacy is prohibited and that medically assisted procreation is only authorized for heterosexual couples, the civil status services must stop registering children born abroad by GPA and recognized by their parents.

The prefect of Milan went further by also asking the town halls under his jurisdiction to block the birth certificates of children born in Italy to women who had recourse to PMA abroad. This is why the city of Milan has been chosen for an event which promises to be of great magnitude.
