A delegation for childrens rights created at the Assembly

The National Assembly created, Tuesday, September 13, a delegation for children’s rights. The deputies who make it up will be responsible for working on subjects related to child welfare, school bullying or even incest.

This Tuesday, September 13, the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, announced the creation of a new delegation devoted to children’s rights. For more than 20 years it has been demanded by many childhood professionals and parliamentarians. A Law proposition had also been filed by several elected officials including the deputies of the PS, Isabelle Santiago and Boris Vallaud. From now on, it is recorded. The measure was passed unanimously by the leaders of the various political parties, during the conference of presidents of the Assembly. This new parliamentary body, unique in its kind, will be composed of 36 deputies, who will represent the political groups “in a proportional and equal manner”highlighted Release.

Necessary delegation

The delegation for children’s rights aims to better take into account the rights of the child but also the harsh realities to which they are exposed, and to improve both the work of the legislative power and the scope of action of the government on priority subjects. The deputies will thus have to look into various themes such as social assistance for children, intra-family violence, bullying at school, incest or even access to pornography. The delegation may also hear “any person whose hearing it considers necessary for its proper information”but also present “information reports” or “carry out flash missions on the subjects of his competence”.

Necessary work for Yaël Braun-Pivet who reminded AFP that 120 children lose their lives each year under the blows, thousands suffer violence, at home or at school. It is a taboo on which I would like all the political groups to work.” The delegation will meet officially at the beginning of October, for the start of the parliamentary term.

A project hailed

The news made noise and provoked some reactions within the political sphere. According to AFP, the Secretary of State for Children, Charlotte Caubel, is proud of the creation of this “transpartisan delegation” with which it intends to work closely and regularly. President Adeline Hazan of UNICEF France also welcomed this project and would like a similar delegation to be created in the Senate, she said in a statement.
