A cult game now lets you fight zombies with glitter and chainsaw on Steam

How do you briefly explain the premise of Lollipop Chainsaw to someone? Maybe something like this: “Cheerleader chainsaws trash-talking zombies and a ton of weird shit happens.” If that sounds like you, you might be interested in the recently released remaster for Steam and the new consoles.

What kind of game is this? Lollipop Chainsaw RePop is a remake of the hack and slay game Lollipop Chainsaw, which was released in 2012 for PS3 and Xbox 360. The remaster was created by Dragami Games in collaboration with the developers of the original.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePop was released on September 12, 2024 for PC on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.

What is the game about? You once again take on the role of Juliet, an 18-year-old cheerleader with a love of lollipops who belongs to a family of zombie hunters. Her weapon of choice is a chainsaw, which she swings like a baseball bat.

One day, on her way to high school, Juliet is greeted by her classmates who have all been turned into zombies. From this point on, the game only gets more absurd, the characters more twisted, and the humor more crude.

The story was written by James Gunn, who made a name for himself through his work on Guardians of the Galaxy and is currently working on the DC Universe.

Depictions of violence are replaced by glitter

What’s new in the remaster? Lollipop Chainsaw RePop offers 4K support and 60 FPS on the PC and the new consoles. The Switch version runs in full HD and at 30 FPS. We can also expect shorter loading times and other improvements to the game.

  • With the right stick you can now look around better
  • the developers have improved the key input, making it easier for you to perform combos
  • the attack speed increases with the number of consecutive hits
  • All characters move faster
  • For those who find the violence in the game a bit too much or want something new, the new RePop mode replaces the blood with pop-colored glitter effects and hearts. A detailed list of all the changes can be found on repop.lollipopchainsaw.com, the game’s official website.

How is the game received? Of the 114 user reviews on Steam so far, 78 percent are positive. Many players complain about the lack of graphics options, even if they like the game. Currently, the only thing that can be changed is the resolution.

With a standard price of 44.99 euros, the remaster isn’t cheap either. So if you really want to play the game on PC, you might want to wait for further updates or a sale.

Meanwhile, the PS Store has three really good games in the BioShock: Collection for just 10 euros. But you have to be quick, because the offer isn’t valid for much longer. You can read more about it here: You can get one of the most popular shooters of recent years on the PS5 for just 10 euros
