A creature in Monster Hunter is so cute that players refuse to hunt it

In Monster Hunter it is part of a hunter’s everyday life to fight huge and dangerous monsters, whether small Jaggis or the dreaded Teostra. However, the community agrees that a blue lizard should be the exception.

Which monster is it? There is a good description of the Dodogama in the Monster Hunter Wiki. The bluish round body, a large jaw and the food preference for stones and crystals are its main characteristics.

He lives in the home of the elders and is peaceful towards humans unless attacked. Its special saliva allows it to convert certain crystals into explosive bombs and to defend itself well despite its calm demeanor and low status in the food chain.

Why is it so difficult for players to hunt him? The main reason is simply that it is way too sweet. His big googly eyes, loving look and his peaceful personality are fall in love with. That’s apparently reason enough why thousands of players refuse to even look at the Dodogama evilly.

How do the developers react to the dereliction of duty by many hunters? Due to all the hype surrounding Dodogama, even the developers had some fun. The quest name and the description of the master rank Dodogama Hunt make the players’ eyes shine.

Capcom has immortalized the Dodogama’s enthusiasm in Monster Hunter World in the quest Can’t Bring Yourself To It.

The quest description states: We are currently facing a rather unique problem. The research was stopped due to a wild dodogama. However, most of our hunters refuse to hunt him because they find Dodogamas… “cute.”

It remains to be seen whether the Dodogama will return in Monster Hunter Wilds, but there is already a decent list of known monsters.

The Dodogama in Monster Hunter World

Reddit user has a good explanation

While one Reddit user doesn’t understand the hype surrounding Dodogama, another user presented him with an interesting theory (via Reddit).

He introduces the Bloofus theory (Blue Doofus theory). This means that if a character is blue and looks idiotic, they will be loved by fans. Based on a few examples, you can partially prove him right:

  • Morlord from Pokemon
  • Jeff from Marvel Rivals
  • Stitch from Lilo and Stitch
  • Accordingly, it is not surprising that the community has created a special subreddit called r/dodogamareserve (in German: Dodogama Reservation) to give the fan favorite a safe home.

But the Dodogama isn’t the only cute monster in Monster Hunter. Mein-MMO editor-in-chief Leya asked the developers about the new monster Rompopolo from Monster Hunter Wilds: Because you were mean to Rompopolo in Monster Hunter Wilds, that made his designer sad and that’s not okay
