Kimmo Leinonen was involved in the idea of the hockey museum in Tampere in the 1970s. The museum was finally opened in Hakametsä Ice Rink in 1979. Today it is located in Vapriikki, Tampere.
The museum has treasures of Finnish hockey from the early twilight of the sport to the present day. There is, of course, the Canada Cup, the prize to be presented to the winning team in the Finnish Championship.
At the World Championships market, long-distance hockey player Leinonen will organize a guided tour of the hockey museum. He still says he is fighting for the right name for the Finnish Championship round prize. According to Leinonen, it is still often misspelled – and pronounced.
– This is something close to my heart. I think I will be the last windmill to fight this, Leinonen says.
