It is a new and intense wave of violence that flared up in Sweden in September. Last night, different apartments were shelled again, one in Handen and one on Lidingö.
A total of seven fatal shootings have occurred in the course of ten days in September, and the national police chief Anders Thornberg has stated that the recent wave of violence is unprecedented.
After today’s crisis meeting, the Minister of Justice announced that there was a common view of the problem.
– Regarding the current situation, there was a common opinion in the room: if we do what we have done – it will go as it has, he says.
Several actors invited
In the council against organized crime sit the law enforcement authorities, including the head of the national police, but also the National Institutions Board (Sis), the National Board of Health and Welfare and the National Board of Education must participate because they come into contact with young criminals.
– The number of young people who are prosecuted for murder, attempted murder or stabbing has increased very significantly and it is an expression of the fact that for various reasons this crime is suppressed in the ages, says Strömmer.
– It can be stated that all parts of the system that are affected by the young dimension of this crime are under great pressure.
Among other things, Strömmer highlighted the importance of strengthened government cooperation with the municipalities as part of the solution.
– Today’s meeting aimed to discuss how to tighten the interaction between the state and municipal level. Municipalities testify about school desks that are gaping empty and relatives who want to leave the country, there are also problems that arise when these people have relatives who may be employed in schools and other things.
Increased pressure on defector activity
At the meeting, they also talked about an increased pressure on defector operations and how to be able to handle a larger volume efficiently, according to Strömmer.
– The pressure that these networks are exposed to and the fear that relatives and young people feel has created a new situation, where many want to step off and get out of the networks. We have then discussed effective structures to be able to meet that need locally.
At the end of September, the conclusions from the meeting will be presented in a more concrete form.
– The actors will now take the details discussed today home to calibrate for just over two weeks and come back with concrete proposals for a completely new collaboration model between the state, regional and municipal levels, says Gunnar Strömmer (M) and concludes:
– It was a good discussion about concrete and groundbreaking proposals and I look forward to taking part in them in the near future in order to be able to implement this as soon as possible.
