Aurore Bergé retains her seat as a member of the National Assembly. The results of the second round of the legislative elections are in.
Aurore Bergé will indeed stay at the Palais Bourbon. The current minister, responsible for Equality between women and men, retains her seat as deputy for the 10th constituency of Yvelines. The complete results of the second round of the legislative elections are clear since the Ensemble candidate obtained 49.05% of the votes against 32.19% for Thomas Du Chalard (RN) and 18.76% for Cédric Briolais (New Popular Front). Already in the lead after the first round, Aurore Bergé is therefore re-enlisting for a new term.
No Republican Front in Aurore Bergé’s Constituency
A withdrawal of the left-wing candidate in the name of the Republican Front, as was the case in several constituencies, could have guaranteed a victory for the minister since left-wing voters would have been called upon to block the RN, but Cédric Briolais announced his continuation, recalling the instructions of his party La France insoumise, which called for withdrawal only in constituencies where the RN had come out on top in the first round. After Aurore Bergé’s victory on Sunday evening, the rebel judged “the risk of the RN winning to be negligible” and maintained his candidacy to “allow voters to choose a program of rupture” he wrote in a press release. By maintaining his candidacy, he left the candidate in a favorable position but in uncertainty before the vote.
