    A “children’s” version of the digital health record could soon be deployed in France. Dr. Fabienne Kocher, president of the French association of outpatient pediatrics, explains her interest to us.

    After “My health space” – the adult version of the notebook launched last February – place in the health notebook for children. Already in place in several European countries, it could soon land on French territory. Its main advantages? Provide families with appropriate health advice, inform professionals of the child’s daily life and better monitor their health journey – which now includes 20 compulsory medical examinations to be carried out during the first eighteen years.

    The dematerialized notebook will have three parts

    This digitization is part of a national health strategy, which aims to facilitate the daily lives of French people but also and above all to act early on the health of children.

    The idea of the dematerialized notebook is to offer several sections: the children/parents section – so that they can better appropriate the messages intended for them (advice when leaving maternity, links to nutrition…) and the “doctors” section, which contains a precise repository of each screening examination as well as medical content”reveals Dr. Fabienne Kocher.

    This notebook may also contain personalized health advice depending on where you live. For example, in the event of hearing impairment or neurodevelopmental disorders in children, a link to an appropriate care center will be offered to the family.

    The main objective of this notebook? May it become a real daily aid for families and health professionals. Any change in the child’s health routine (new diet, sudden allergy, language delay, etc.) may therefore be entered in the digital document.

    The idea is to offer a wealth of very practical information so that parents can take ownership of this notebook.“, confides the president of the association.

    Of course, this digital document must be scalable and accompany the child until adolescence and adulthood. A paper version will also remain available.

    Only difficulty:The cost of this health diary and the constant updates it will require”, says the pediatrician. Reason why it should only see the light of day in a few years.

    When must the health record be presented?

    The health record must be presented at each consultation, hospitalization or medical examination (radiological, oral, etc.).

    It must contain the results of the twenty compulsory examinations carried out during the first 18 years of the child. This distribution makes it possible to extend the follow-up and to adapt to the ages of the vaccination schedule.

    The card can also be used as a vaccination certificate, provided that the following two criteria are met:

    • The mention of the vaccination in question is dated and signed by the health professional who performed it;
    • The name and address of this healthcare professional are indicated.
