In Chad, water is still a luxury for many inhabitants, including in the capital. In 2020, only 30% of Ndjamenois had access to drinking water, a situation that the French association World for Chad is trying to change. A charity concert was organized on Saturday May 7, led by the Cameroonian singer Charlotte Dipanda, in order to obtain enough funding to dig a dozen wells. Some have already been inaugurated on Friday and barely installed, they are already changing the lives of the population.

In the Adigno district, it’s effervescence. A well was inaugurated… Until then, water, which was too scarce, was a luxury for the inhabitants.
For Maïtema, mother of three, it’s a relief: ” Behind, over there, we went to fetch water from the well. It was a difficulty and a constraint because we spent 30 minutes with the baby on our back to fetch water. Everyday we did “.
“ It will suit us »
Her neighbour, Maillegora agrees and explains that the water will enable her to launch her market gardening project: “ Parsley, peppers… vegetables, spinach. We will sell around the neighborhood and with all these small means, it will suit us because women are disadvantaged here. »
In Ndjamena, one inhabitant in two has limited access to drinking water. For Seïd Masre, of the NGO world for Chad, which is behind the installation of ten water wells this year, there is urgency: “ Every human being needs water because water is life, as we often say. It’s not normal for the authorities to leave citizens like that. We came here, 800 meters from the National Assembly. Here, they do not have access to water. A well has just been inaugurated. »
