A character from One Piece is stuck in a barrel, has never been seen in the anime

In One Piece, there are many characters who only appear in the background and do not play an important role in the story. But one character who only appeared in 2 pictures in the manga is important enough to be given a backstory.

What kind of character is this? Sarfunkel is a woman who is stuck in a wooden barrel. She has appeared three times in the One Piece universe:

  • Once as a cover story of chapter 620 with Gimon, who is also stuck in an object
  • Once again in chapter 1119 in a picture with Gimon
  • In the movie One Piece Film: Red, holding hands with Gimon while listening to a song by Uta
  • In all her appearances, Sarfunkel has never said anything. All we know is what she looks like: she has long, blonde hair that reaches to the floor and glasses. In a tweet from X-User newworldartur you can see Sarfunkel’s picture from the manga cover:

Until now, not much was known about the lady at Gimon’s side. The pictures suggest that she and Gimon are close. The two are either holding hands, laughing together or Sarfunkel is feeding Gimon.

But now a set of new Vivre Cards has been released that reveal more about individual characters. Sarfunkel was also given such a card and we finally know how she got into this stupid mess.

Sarfunkel has only a few appearances in One Piece

How did the accident happen? Sarbuncle was on a boat trip when the accident happened. She was playing hide and seek with others and probably thought that the wooden barrel was a smart idea. However, the boat she was on was shipwrecked.

The barrel and Sarbuncle were then washed up on the island of rare animals. She was apparently so stuck in the barrel that she still can’t get out. But in Gimon, who is stuck in a box, she has found the perfect companion in suffering.

Can’t she just get out of the barrel? It might be possible for Sarbuncle and Gimon to emerge from their vessels. However, according to CBR, Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, simply thought it was more fun to leave Gimon in his box. The same will apply to Sarbuncle.
