The Hvaldimir whale, which had a friendly attitude towards people, was suspected of being a Russian spy.
The milk whale Hvaldimir, who became famous in Norway, has been found dead near Stavanger, says Norwegian public radio NRK.
Norwegian fishermen discovered Hvaldimir in 2019 off the coast of Finnmark. A harness was put on it, from which it was concluded that the whale came from Russia.
Based on the harness, Russia was suspected to have trained Hvaldimir as a spy. Another option is that it would have been used for therapeutic purposes. At least Hvaldimir didn’t dislike the closeness of people.
Hvaldimir’s cause of death is being investigated. The researchers are surprised by its demise, because it was seen alive yesterday. The animal was young and appeared to be in good condition.
