This week there were reports that a bomb was the cause of the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya.
Now it is a “seven-kilogram projectile with a warhead”, according to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
In addition, about a dozen people have been arrested on suspicion of being involved in the murder.
On the night of Wednesday, Hamas’ top leader Ismail Haniyas was killed in Tehran. What caused his death has been disputed.
This week there were reports that it was a remote-controlled bomb that was secretly smuggled into the residence where Haniyas lived when he visited Iran, sources told The New York Times.
According to the sources, the bomb would have been placed in the residence two months before the murder. Which is considered a major failure for Iran’s security services.
– The perception that Iran can neither protect its homeland nor its allies can be fatal for the regime. If the enemy cannot overthrow the Islamic Republic, they can decapitate it, said Ali Vaez, director of the International Crisis Group in Iran, to The New York Times.
Iran: Killed by robot
Now comes conflicting information. The terrorist-branded Revolutionary Guard believes that the Hamas leader was killed by a “seven-kilogram projectile with a warhead”. The robot should have been shot from a place outside the house, according to the AFP news agency.
At the same time reporting The New York Times that Iran has arrested a dozen or so who are suspected of having a role in the murder. Among those arrested are senior officials within the country’s intelligence service.
Iran and Hamas blame Israel for the killing and Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has vowed revenge. Israel has neither commented nor claimed responsibility for the attack.
