A boat traveling to Italy sank – at least 20 people missing | News in brief

Seven people were rescued when a ship carrying migrants to Italy sank on Tuesday in the Mediterranean Sea.

At least twenty people aboard the boat are still missing, Reuters reports.

The survivors of the accident have been transported to the island of Lampedusa. According to them, there are at least five women and three children among the missing.

The boat had set off on Monday from Libya, the coastal town of Zuware.

No body has been found so far. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), over the past decade, around 24,500 people have died or gone missing in the central Mediterranean.
