a black Thursday already announced in transport

STRIKE 10 NOVEMBER. New day of mobilization scheduled for Thursday, November 10. The RATP unions have already announced a “black day” with the objective of “0 metro and 0 RER”.

Despite the very low participation in the strike of October 27, the secretary general of the CGT Philippe Martinez called however “to maintain this pressure so that there is an increase in wages”. A new day of mobilization is scheduled for November 10, a strike that could be more followed after the transport unions’ call for “zero metro, zero RER”. This interprofessional strike launched by the CGT has as its watchword “increases in wages, the minimum wage and the automatic indexation of all levels of remuneration to the cost of living” but also the objective of fighting against a reform of “unfair” pensions.

The mobilization of October 27 in the middle of school holidays had not gathered en masse, according to police figures about 15,000 people had demonstrated throughout France, including 1,360 in Paris. By way of comparison, the demonstration of October 18 had brought together between 107,000 demonstrators for the police and 300,000 according to the CGT.

What are the demands of the CGT?

In a communicated official, the union called on “all workers, young people and retirees to remain mobilized to make November 10 a new day of strikes and large-scale demonstrations in all professional sectors, public and private, on the whole territory, to obtain wage increases and impose new choices and another future”.

Where will the mobilizations take place?

As with every mobilization, the CGT puts on its website an interactive map listing the gatherings across the country. At present only certain mobilizations have been announced such as:

  • Lille: demonstration at 2:30 p.m. at the Porte de Paris
  • Caen: demonstration at 11 a.m. in front of the MEDEF (10 Rue Alfred Kastler)
  • Poitiers: demonstration at 2 p.m. in front of the Porte de Paris
  • Nîmes: demonstration at 2:30 p.m. at the Place de la Maison Carrée
  • Montpellier: demonstration at 12 p.m. in front of the station
  • Toulouse: demonstration at 2 p.m., departure from the war memorial (Metro François Verdier)

Parisian transport severely disrupted?

In a press release relayed on Twitter and signed by several RATP unions, the CGT, FO, Solidaires and Unsa demanded wages indexed to inflation but also more recruitment in the transport sector. The objective is a “black day” for the railway workers to make their demands heard: “0 metro, 0 RER”. Parisian public transport is therefore likely to be strongly impacted.

The RATP inter-union announced via the joint press release that during this interprofessional strike day, a strike notice had already been filed from Wednesday November 9 at 10 p.m. to Friday November 11 at 7 a.m. Disruptions will only be communicated 48 hours in advance.
