The bizarre cracker Hard Powder deserves the admiration of many fans. Instead, the first reactions were met with mockery. The film has namely various parallels to the Simpsons episode Once as a Snow King.

In the episode, Homer becomes the hero of the town in Springfield with his snow plow company, The Snow King, and then he has to battle the competition from buddy Barney. The black humorous hard powder plot about a father’s (Neeson) revenge on the murderers of his son (Micheál Richardson) doesn’t have much in common with it at first glance.
However, Neeson plays a snowplow driver who is voted Citizen of the Year by his chronically snowy hometown. And then (like Homer) increasingly brutal methods to achieve his goals. Even entire settings are similar to those of the Springfielder template, as a fan on Twitter shows:

“We all joked that Hard Powder is actually the film adaptation of Once Upon a Time as a Snow King. But come on!“, he expresses his astonishment at the various visual and dramaturgical parallels.
And he’s not the only one with this mockery: even before the film’s theatrical release, whole storms of taunts broke out on Twitter about the film. “I’m happy about that Hard Powder/Homer Simpson crossover film“, it says there. And another user wonders: “Is Hard Powder the dark once upon a time Snow King reboot we didn’t know we needed?“

The makers of the film will probably have to adjust to such well-intentioned, albeit mocking comments in the years to come. In doing so, hard powder is somewhat unfairly made a target: after all, it is a Remake of the Norwegian thriller One at a Time.
The American version offers a skillful Mixture of bizarre humor and gory action good evening entertainment. As long as you can get Homer Simpson out of your head for two hours.
