A 4K TV from Samsung is one of the bestsellers on Amazon. But how good is the device and is it worth it for PS5 and Xbox Series X?

A television from Samsung is currently (as of June 4, 2022) in second place for “televisions”. Above all, the price of less than 400 euros (as of June 4, 2022) should appeal to many users. But is the device worth it at all or should you rather invest more money?
TV offers a great picture and good colors, but hardly any gaming features
For currently less than 400 euros you can get a 43-inch TV with 4K resolution. The device is also available with up to 85 inches, you are currently paying around 1300 euros for it. The device offers you HDR, HDR10+ and HLG. In addition, the device supports Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), which is particularly important for people who want to use the TV for gaming. Because this automatically reduces the latency when playing.
In addition, the device has 2 HDMI 2.0 ports on the back, one of which supports eARC. eARC is designed to provide high speed and bandwidth for audio signals. So you can easily send complex audio signals to a receiver or soundbar and you don’t have to do without good sound if you don’t want to play with a gaming headset anyway.
How good is the device? In the test, the online magazine Rtings praised the TV primarily for its excellent picture quality and the good contrast values that are typical of VA panels (via rtings.com). The main criticism is the TV’s lack of a dimming function. Because that’s not how you can improve the black levels. Even the brightness in HDR is not always convincing.
On Amazon and other sites, some buyers criticize that the TV’s sound is very bad. There is also criticism for the menu bar, because you cannot customize it. Whenever you click through the menu, you must see a long list of services and advertisements.

Is the device worth it for gamers? Despite the good values, the device cannot be recommended for gamers. Because the device only offers you a VA panel with 60 Hz and functions such as variable refresh rate (VRR) and HDMI 2.1 support are completely missing.
