The shrine is the size of three football fields in total.
Archaeological excavations have found a more than 4,000-year-old sanctuary in the municipality of Tieli in the Netherlands. About that tells the country’s public broadcasting company Nos.
The shrine is the size of three football fields in total. People have probably gathered there for sacrifices, funerals, feasts and other rituals.
The find is unique in Holland. The archaeological project is the largest in the country’s history. Excavations started already in 2017, and during them more than a million objects have been unearthed.
According to archaeologists, the excavated sanctuary resembles Stonehenge in England. Like Stonehenge, it is circular in shape and may have been used as a solar calendar.
