In Burkina Faso, this Friday the 17th edition of the Ouagadougou International Crafts Fair opens, in the presence of the Burkinabè head of state, Captain Ibrahim Traoré. This event, which is held once every two years, brings together artisans from all over the world. An edition which is being held in a security context marked by a war of the national armed forces against armed terrorist groups. The theme for the 2024 edition is “African crafts, youth entrepreneurship and empowerment”

With this theme, the 2024 edition of SIAO intends to emphasize the role of crafts in the empowerment of youth. The sector provides jobs and therefore supports economic growth.
On the program, exhibitions and sales, professional meetings, cultural events but also workshops to popularize craft professions.
A few hours before the opening of the show, 4,000 exhibitors from around thirty countries have already registered. One hundred and fifty buyers and professional visitors are also expected and 350,000 visitors.
Guests of honor of this 17th edition, the Mali and the Nigerthe other two members of theAlliance of Sahel States. A space called “AES village” was also created for the occasion. For the Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, it is a question of highlighting “ the rich artisanal, tourist and cultural heritage of the AES “.
Forty-five prizes will be awarded to the best craftsmen at the close of the show on November 3.
