According to the first statements, 13 people, including 3 firefighters, were injured due to the fire that broke out around 17.30 local time (19.30 CET) in the apartment building in the Campanar District of Valencia and is still ongoing.
Due to the size of the fire, the Municipality of Valencia requested help from the fire departments in nearby cities and the Military Emergency Aid Unit.
Many ambulances were dispatched to the region, where a field hospital was immediately established.
A support and coordination unit was established in the area where the 14-storey building consisting of different blocks is located.
Authorities stated that hot weather and wind made the fire department’s job difficult.

Eyewitnesses also stated that the fire brigade rescued some people from the balconies of the burning apartment building, and that those escaping from the flames jumped from one balcony to another.
