A 12-year-old survival game dominates Twitch, despite big releases on Steam

February 2025 was a strong month for gamers, because several AAA blockbusters and indie secret tips appeared on Steam and Co. In German Twitch you would rather see the Survival game Rust from 2013.

What could streamer have shown? After a slightly longer release thumb, February 2025 was packed with several large releases that vied for the favor of the players. There was:

  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
  • Civilization VII
  • Avowed
  • Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
  • Monster Hunter Wilds
  • There were also some cool indie releases such as a game about digging a hole, repo and sworn. And although these games were all successful, older titles dominated the German Twitch.

Monster Hunter did not go into the race until the end of February, but quickly stormed the charts on Steam.

What was going on in German Twitch instead? In German space – as well as internationally – it was mainly based on the tried and tested. Permanent burners such as League of Legends, GTA 5, Fortnite and of course just chatting are at the top when it comes to the hours seen.

As data from the analysis page show stream charts, which MeinMMO is exclusively available, the Survival game Rust from 2013 trends in the German-language Twitch. Although the title has been in the back for a few years, he is booming again and again on Twitch-namely when larger streamers start a common server and sink everything in chaos.

In February, Montanblack and Zarbex started a common server, on which well -known streamers such as Trymacs, Rumathra and Filow were bustling. Such projects live from the interaction between the streamers: spectators can follow how an influencer puts a lot of work into a base, and then see how it is broken down in a raid – including an outbreak of the person concerned.

This time it caught Trymacs, who threatened to stop the project immediately:

In total, Rust was able to reach 5.4 million hours in German -speaking countries in February 2025 – this corresponds to an increase of 558 % for the previous month. It takes 5th place in the games with the most spectators of the month, hair -sharp behind Fortnite. Rust had the last big boom in the German Twitch before 2021.

It shows again and again that this social interaction among streamers on Twitch has more traction than large new releases. The influencer guild only ensures that WoW on Twitch is big.

It is also interesting that the two biggest streamers in the month, Eliasn97 and Papaplatte, hardly or not at all dealt with the trendy games. Eliasn97 was in Rust for a few hours, but was mainly busy with his own events. Papaplatte, on the other hand, was significantly involved in reviving a browser game, for which hardly anyone seemed to be interested in the pandemic in Germany.
