Brant County is celebrating the official opening of three new stations for its volunteer firefighters.
The public is welcome to celebrations for stations in Scotland, Onondaga and Cainsville.
“County of Brant residents rely on the quick action of over 185 firefighters when a crisis strikes,” said Fire Chief Geoff Hayman. “Whether they are fighting fires, responding to emergencies or engaged in rescue efforts, the highly skilled fire team provides a critical service to the community. We are very pleased with the new fire stations and the functionality the spaces offer to the local fire service.”
The official openings are:
- Scotland Fire Station, 83 Simcoe St., on May 28, 1 pm to 2:30 pm
- Onondaga Fire Station, 734 Hwy. 54, June 18, 10:30 am to noon.
- Cainsville Fire Station, 17 Ewart Ave., June 25, 10:30 a.m. to noon.
A plaque unveiling, hose-cutting ceremony and tours will be among the events.
The opening of the library kiosk located at the Onondaga station also will be celebrated on June 18. Children are invited to attend the event and participate in a craft with library staff. The kiosk offers 24/7 access to books and DVDs for kids and adults. Staff will be on hand to offer demonstrations and library card signup.
Those attending the Onondaga fire station celebration should park across the road at Onondaga Park and a shuttle will be provided through Brant Transit, where face coverings are required.
“The three new fire stations meet all facility needs now and into the future,” said Hayman. “The fire stations now have expanded apparatus bay capacity, office space for officers, large training room, a diesel extraction system for the apparatus, and back-up power for power outages.”
In total, Brant has eight fire stations: Paris, Airport, Burford, Cainsville, Mount Pleasant, Onondaga, Scotland and St. George. Firefighters respond to about 800 calls a year.
